Beehive Cheese Company of Ogden, Utah captured two First place and two Third place ribbons at the American Cheese Society Annual Competition in Montreal, Quebec on Friday, August 5.

Beehive Cheese, Barely Buzzed - Espresso and Lavender rubbed placed First in the Flavored Cheddar category for the fourth time in five years.
Beehive Cheese Promontory placed first in Cheddar aged less than 1 year category.  In a company press release, Tim Welsh of Beehive Cheese Company said, "These awards are extremely meaningful to us.  For a relatively new cheesemaker, it validates our ability to produce consistent and quality cheeses that measure up with some of the best cheese in the world. It is especially gratifying to win first place with our Promontory as the recipe was developed locally at Utah State University and this cheese is the foundation for our crazy and creative cheeses."

Promontory also received a third place award at the prestigious World Cheese Awards in London last fall.

Beehive Cheese, Big John's Cajun Rub and Seahive rubbed with wildflower honey and sea salt placed third in their respective categories.

The American Cheese Society celebrated its 28th anniversary this year in Montreal where the 2011 Judging & Competition saw a record number of entries: 1,676 cheeses and cultured milk products from 258 different companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The American Cheese Society is an active, not for profit trade organization that encourages the understanding, appreciation and promotion of farmstead and natural specialty cheeses produced in the Americas and Canada.
